Foursquare reveals what it thinks is ‘best of’

January 31, 2013

As Foursquare continues to changes itself from a social network that’s based on checking-in and into a much more comprehensive local search engine, it has just rolled out its ‘best of’ lists for food, nightlife, activities, and much more in 30 U.S. cities… this list is based off of more than 3 billion check-ins from its users along with tips, likes, dislikes, popularity, and local expertise.

Foursquare is positioning itself to compete with services such as Yelp which could be a good thing for businesses which are fed up with Yelps mafia like tactics. In November, Foursquare launched a ten-point scoring system for local business. It also launched a new version of its website which is open to those who aren’t members and has an easy to use search box. In addition to all of these new launches, Foursquare just recently released apps for both the Android and the iPhone that will allow merchants to more easily manage their social presence on the Foursquare network.

One of the interesting thing about the lists that Foursquare has come up with is that certain cities have unique tastes in food… Those in Boston love seafood, people in Philadelphia love a good hoagie, and those in Portland are into their veggies.
