Governor Cuomo is on his way to Washington to seek close to 42 billion dollars in aid for his state, about 33 billion would be to fix the damages that were incurred during the storm and about another 9 million would be used to help prevent damage of these levels from happening again.

Getting that money will be difficult though as Cuomo is competing against deficit concerns as well as the needs of other states; NJ governor Christie has stated that his state got hit with close to 37 billion dollars worth of damages.

Housing alone got hit with close to 10 billion dollars in damages. Home owners who had hurricane insurance are currently facing a lot of difficulty in collecting any money back for the damages that they faced as the Sandy never received the technical classification of ‘hurricane’ and was instead classified as ‘a storm with hurricane level winds’.
